Colistin (as Sulphate)

INDICATIONS

 

CANESTEN is indicated for the treatment of all infections caused by gram-negative bacteria susceptible to Colistin such as E.coli, Salmonella, Pasteurella, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, and Haemophillus. It is recommended for the treatment of enteritis and diarrhea in poultry, calves and lambs.

DOSAGE

 

ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION: Oral
GENERAL PHARMACOLOGICAL DOSE: 75,000 IU / kg b.w.
Poultry : 0.5 gm / 10 liters of drinking water daily for 3-5 days.
Calves & Lambs : 0.1 gm / 10 kg body weight for 3- 6 days in drinking water or milk.

DISCRIPTION

 

Colistin is a bactericidal antibiotic highly active against gram negative bacteria. It belongs to polymixin group with a good safety profile. Colistin acts by the inhibition of cytoplasmic membrane synthesis and is poorly absorbed from the G.I.T offering specific advantage in the treatment of G.I.T infections.
